Eurobodalla Shire sits at the coastal intersection of Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. The area is sometimes referred to as the Capital Coast, with Batemans Bay the closest seaside town to Canberra. Fringed by mountains that drop to an ocean plateau, it is considered one of the NSW South Coast’s most scenic areas.
Our Shire’s location creates numerous businesses opportunities in tourism, produce, services and other industries, particularly to the Canberra market and the large population centres north through to Sydney.
The commencement of direct flights from Canberra to Singapore makes the location highly valuable for produce, tourism and other business ventures with Asia.
In addition, rapid improvements in internet speed now make the region a superb location for online business and ecommerce.
Batemans Bay, our shires major population centre, is 149 km east of Canberra, 196 km south of Wollongong, and 277 km south of Sydney. The aquatic haven of Narooma in Eurobodalla’s south is 684 km from Melbourne. (Distances by road). Eurobodalla Shire is part of the NSW electoral division of Bega, and sits across the Federal electoral divisions of Gilmore and Eden-Monaro.
Eurobodalla Shire is part of the Canberra Region.
The Canberra Region offers a dynamic and diverse range of industries running from the Alpine, through the Tablelands and down to the Coast, contributing to an increasingly influential regional economy.
The member councils involved include Bega, Eurobodalla, Hilltops, Goulburn Mulwaree, Queanbeyan-Palerang, Snowy Monaro, Upper Lachlan and Yass Valley. Collectively with the ACT Government, they form the Canberra Region Joint Organisation (CBRJO)
